The USA for UNCHR supports the UN Refugee Agency’s humanitarian work to protect and assist refugees around the world.
WHAT THEY'RE ALL ABOUT:
One of the greatest examples of someone using their public status for the well-being of others is Angelina Jolie. It’s undeniable. Her active role as a UNCHR Special Envoy has sparked interest and made a significant difference to the USA for UNHCR. Perhaps her presence is why the charity was listed 7 out of 10 on the Top Celebrity-Related Charities of 2013.
So what is the meaning behind all of Jolie’s angelic and selfless photos you see everywhere? Engaging in conversations with Sudan women, becoming teary-eyed by children in refugee camps, and voicing her concerns on war zone rape at the UN Security Council - it’s simple: to raise awareness and urge action. Every one of those good deeds is a reminder that while most are blessed with a warm home, safe neighborhood, and surrounding family/friends, 42.5M people are not. 15.55M of them are under the age of 18, displaced by war, violence, or persecution and in desperate need of ANY form of normalcy.
Over 6,000 UNHCR staff members work daily to open the doors to health, sanitation, shelter, education and more to refugees on a global basis - but what will YOU do? Will you donate $5 to their Blue Key Campaign to do the same? Will you participate in their next tweetathon to raise awareness of the crisis in Syria? Envision a world where everyone has a place to call “home,” and get involved.
